It was Valentine's Day, 1993, and I was bored!
I obviously didn't have a date, the country was in the throes of a recession, and Manchester had become a city of boarded-up premises...Boardom!
So that Sunday morning I went into town, armed with a Yashicamat 120 camera, one roll of film, and twelve Sunday newspapers!
I stuck what I thought was an appropriate front page of a newspaper onto each of the twelve boarded buildings - look carefully! - and took just one frame (I still have the uncut roll of film!)
What resulted was a really interesting view of a city under the cosh..with a battered high street and businesses going down the pan (Ring any bells?)
..and a great insight into the press world of the day - to see what headlines were used.. only one ran with the two-day old Jamie Bulger story, for example..
and also to see which newspapers aren't even around any more!
